Travelling gadgets - DSLR vs Smartphone with good camera ( A MUST READ !! )

No matter where we are, it is essential for us to have a camera to pause and save all the beautiful moments to be reviewed . This shows how important a device like camera, as it plays a huge role throughout our journey.

Having a DSLR is normally must. We tend to demand for good pictures when we have our supreme camera with us. But to be honest, is it really necessary??

I am a freelance photographer. I own two Nikon cameras, Nikon D7000 (DSLR)  and Nikon P510 (semi pro). Both, I would say is good enough for me as it is capable of taking heavenly good  images.

Travelers should understand, by bringing your gadgets you may have unwanted attention. This is due to the location  (some, not all) you are visiting. Yes, it can be avoided but are you sure you would like to take risk during your fun packed vacation? Think again.

Better most, have a hand phone with good camera as a substitute for DSLR .It is highly recommended as hand phones are much more handy and  convenient. If you are diving or snorkeling, hand phones with good camera can be kept in a waterproof plastic cover to be used underwater. It could save hundreds of bucks if you are planning to get a waterproof casing for a DSLR. It is an advantage if you have a waterproof hand phone.

So lets hear it, what are the major benefits and problems I had when I brought them on vacation.

Pros of DSLR

1. Captures incredibly good images even in Low light condition with nearly zero error.
2. has an independent battery
3. longer battery life ( Normally)
4. Reliable

Cons of DSLR

1. Bulky
2. Heavy
3. Attracts unwanted attentions
4. Accessories are mostly expensive
5. Have to bring the accessories along  ( Much more heavier and attracts more unwanted attraction )

Pros of Hand Phone Camera

1. Very Handy
2. Can be taken into water with cheap reliable waterproof casing
3. Have Multi function
4. Light
5. SAFE, Doesn't really attract unwanted attention.
6. Accessories and spare parts are cheaper ( compared to DSLR) in case of any wear and tear.

Cons of Hand phone Camera

1.Doesn't have an independent battery
2. Battery drains out very fast (Base on normal to heavy usage)
3. May not be as reliable as DSLR
4. Photo quality (depends on Hand phone model)

Best Advice
Both DSLR and a good camera  smartphone have their own plus points. If you don't have a DSLR, chill dude. Get a good camera phone, I would suggest smartphones such as Sony Xperia. They are really durable and reliable, some models can even take good pictures underwater without any external casing. Huawei models such as Honor 7 are good too ( view sample images ).

Well if you have a DSLR, play it safe. If you are staying in a trusted hotel, leave your gadget in the locker when you are about to visit a less safe area. This would definitely make some difference. You can have good pictures and you are not being a spotlight.

The choice is yours so think carefully when you are taking your gadgets out.

Travel safely, Enjoy thoroughly.

Buffet dinner @ Talipon Restaurant

Well it's always a pleasure to enjoy good food to recover ourselves from a tiring day. Food is the ultimate desire for fresh bloods. Hunting for good restaurant is part of the noble journey. Plus if you are a student, the ceiling of budget is at the lowest.

Let's talk about this awesome restaurant. Talipon, a weird name. I don't know how they got it or maybe it's the olden days pronunciation of 'telephone' in Malay. Seriously, I have no idea.  After searching up and down for a buffet style restaurant, we found this. The review was quite impressive on some food pages and so I made my way there.

First impression

Basically, don't have high expectation on the exteriors. It's an old restaurant with no air conditioners, open aired, clean but not classy, and it's not halal. They had the tables covered with plastic instead of table cloth.

Food

Owh yea, who cares about the exteriors, sorry if you do. The varieties are quite impressive. Taa daaa....

Marinated meat: Lamb, chicken, and etc

Seafood Divine - baby lobsters, tiger prawns, sea-blue crab, clamps, mussels, oyster and etc.

 Processed food and etc

 Varieties of Mushroom

Collection of fresh vegetables.

Dim sum and other mouth watering little dishes as starter.

Ice shaver ( sorry, I totally forgot to snap a picture of the toppings available- ice kacang only)

Ice creams

Well,  i think the dishes available are good enough to make or stomach full. Even if the place failed to look good, the food will definitely satisfy you.

Check out my own steamboat platter. I have to be honest, once I saw variety of clamps, I went crazy!  I took a little from all of them and got disappointed . The clamps failed to open. I tried to cook by throwing them into the chicken soup ( the only soup available), yet they stay still.

Here is the plus point if you love to eat something new ( maybe not for all). They do serve fresh frog and mud crab upon request. So you are an exotic eater, this place should not be skipped.

Mud crab- They are still alive.

Overall Experience

Its a good restaurant if you are not fussy about the environment. Food is worth for the money. The biggest plus point is, you can eat as much as you can since the shop will opened till 3 a.m !! Price ,
RM 32.80 for an adult , RM 19.00 for a child.

* All the above pictures are taken using Honor 7
